Measuring the Spectrum of Ultrahigh Energy Cosmic Rays using the Monte Carlo Technique
نویسندگان
چکیده
The technique for measuring the spectrum of the highest energy cosmic rays using the air-fluorescence technique has been well-developed over the last few decades. Due to the complexity of the phenomena that occur during an extensive air shower (the production of fluorescence and Cerenkov light including scattering and attenuation), correctly determining the energy-dependence of the aperture requires the creation of a good full-detector Monte Carlo which accurately reproduces measurable quantities of the air shower. The Telescope Array Monte Carlo simulation will be explained and plots comparing data and Monte Carlo will be shown.

The Mysterious Ultrahigh Energy Cosmic Ray Clustering
We examine the correlation between compact radio quasars (redshifts in the range z = 0.3−2.2) and the arrival direction of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays forming clusters. Our Monte Carlo simulation reveals a statistically significant correlation on the AGASA sample: the chance probability of this effect being less than 1%. The implications of this result on the origin of ultrahigh energy cosmic ...
متن کاملPhotodisintegration of Ultrahigh Energy Cosmic Rays: A New Determination
We present the results of a new calculation of the photodisintegration of ultrahigh energy cosmic-ray (UHCR) nuclei in intergalactic space. The critical interactions for energy loss and photodisintegration of UHCR nuclei occur with photons of the 2.73 K cosmic background radiation (CBR) and with photons of the infrared background radiation (IBR). We have reexamined this problem making use of a ...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Fluence to Dose Conversion Coefficients for High Energy Neutrons Using a Voxel Phantom Coupled with the GEANT4 Code
Crews working on present-day jet aircraft are a large occupationally exposed group with a relatively high average effective dose from galactic cosmic radiation. Crews of future high-speed commercial flying at higher altitudes would be even more exposed. To help reduce the significant uncertainties in calculations of such exposures, the male adult voxels phantom MAX, developed in the Nuclear Ene...
متن کاملBremsstrahlung imaging from the liver using the Monte Carlo simulation
Introduction: Most beta and gamma radiation radioisotopes used for treatment are not suitable for imaging. The bremsstrahlung images on a conventional gamma camera helped to localize the radionuclide within and outside of the lesion. Secondary scattering of gamma rays of higher energy and bremsstrahlung causes contamination in the energy window and reducing the contrast and resolution of the im...
متن کاملUnfolding X-ray spectrum in the diagnostic range using the Monte Carlo Code MCNP5
Introduction: Unfolding X-ray spectrum is a powerful tool for quality control of X-ray tubes. Generally, the acquisition of the X-ray spectrum in diagnostic radiology departments is complicated and difficult due to high photon flux. Measurement of x ray spectra using radiation detectors could not be performed accurately, because of the pulse pile up. Therefore, indirect methods...
